Alykes also sometimes known as Alikes, is a small friendly resort in the north east of the island. Alykes (meaning salt) was named after the salt lakes which used to be economically important for the town, but nowadays the salt is not gathered and the salt flats are left undisturbed. This is a popular resort with families and couples, many of whom after one visit succumb to the magical spell of the place which ensures they return year after year. Part of the appeal of this resort has to be the amazing beach, one of the best in the north of the island. It is a large beach, both long and wide with soft golden sand which gently shelves and remains shallow for a long way out making it ideal for children to play and swim safely. The resort is exceptionally friendly, the locals will go out of their way to ensure that visitors have a pleasant and memorable stay and there are numerous bars, shops and restaurants to while away the evening hours. Just a short walk away is the neighbouring resort of Alykanas, many tourists enjoy the walk to this resort and the chance to visit other tavernas and bars.
