Skinari is in the north of Zante and is an area with many charming villages such as Makri Gialos, Xigia and Volimes and is also the location of the Blue Caves and Navagio (Shipwreck). At Skinari there is a stone built lighthouse and it is also a departure point for trips to the blue caves and shipwreck.

Volimes is a well known mountain village on the island, due to the wide range of handmade products sold here, including homemade cheese, honey, wine and also ceramics and lace. The lace and other woven products have a very good reputation and are famous throughout Greece for their good quality. This is a traditional village with many attractive stone built houses, many of them date to before the earthquake in 1953 but this area is becoming very popular for new stone built houses both for Zakynthian locals wanting to move to quieter areas of the island and also with foreigners wishing to relocate to Zante. From the port of St Nicholas , close to Volimes ferryboats depart daily to Kefalonia, the nearest neighbouring Ionian Island .

Makri Gialos has a beautiful sandy beach and several good tavernas and a huge beach part is held here annually, providing lots of fun for locals and tourists – the music blares until the early hours of the morning with fireworks and lots of dancing, a lively night for all! Xigia is the neighbouring village to Makri Gialos and the water at this beach has a high sulphur content making it a famous natural health spa, known for healing qualities and also for helping to remove cellulite! A beach well worth visiting, as it is never crowded and the water here is warm.

Skinari is a beautiful region of Zante and well worth visiting to get away from crowds and to enjoy the landscape of Zante, its beautiful colours of pretty flowers, green scenery and emerald sea creating a dazzling panorama sure to delight everyone fortunate enough to visit this little corner of paradise.
