» Greece: Acropolis to be the back drop for new movie
Published 2006-09-26
This is rare permission, as only one other film has been filmed at the Acropolis - "Life without Zoe" by Francis Fords Coppola (1989). It is thought that the permission was granted only after heaving lobbing by Nia Vardalos, the Canadian Greek actress who was the star of the surprise hit film "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". The new film will be called "My life in Ruins" and will feature Vardalos as a tour guide; Tom Hanks will produce the film. The movie will also feature other ancient Greek sites including, Delphi and monasteries at Meteora.
It is thought that this film will help to promote Greece and the Greek tourist industry - as with such a well known team it is sure to be widely viewed. Filming is set to start in October.
