» 20-year-old's miracle recovery after holiday hit-and-run
Published 2007-08-22
A YOUNG woman has made a miraculous recovery after she was knocked down by a hit and run driver while on holiday abroad. The incident left Stephanie Arton, 20, from Rhosddu, Wrexham, fighting for her life. She had suffered serious head injuries when she was hit by a car as she crossed the road while on holiday on the Greek island of Zakynthos with her friends, and after flying out to her bedside her parents, Phil and Mary Arton, were told she was minutes from death as blood could not reach her brain. They made the decision for doctors to carry out two operations to save her life. Following her operations, the former Darland High and Yale College student faced a battle with pneumonia while in intensive care and had to spend four weeks in the hospital in Greece. Stephanie is now back in Wrexham after being flown back from Greece by air ambulance with her family, who have been deluged with messages of support. She is currently at the Maelor hospital and has been texting her friends, communicating with her family and tackling Suduko puzzles. Mr Arton said: "It's a miracle."
