    » Zakynthos Mayor remanded in custody

    The Mayor of Zakynthos has been remanded in custody until his trial on charges of attempted arson, alleged fraud, alleged involvement in a criminal organisation. On hearing the decision the Mayor had chest pains and was taken to hospital by ambulance. The original incident that sparked this story was last friday when a young albanian attempted to set fire to the accounts office at the council building but was disrupted before any damage could be done by a worker who had returned to the offices after forgetting a personal item. Three other men have also been arrested and remanded in custody until trial, in connection with the scandal.
