    » Zante mayor involved in scandal

    A sensational political scandal centering on the Mayor Mr Akis Tsagaropoulos has gripped local society during the past week. The mayor was arrested after being accused of orchestrating arson within the Zante city hall in order to destroy incriminating evidence in the economic affairs bureau. Vassilis Steriotis, manager of the economics affairs bureau and a courier company owner Mr Nikos Konstatatos along with a 27 year old unnamed Albanian have also been arrested and remanded in custody waiting trial. It is thought they were trying to cover up details of numerous loans taken by the council from many banks where the money has been unaccounted for.
