» New Design of Euro Coin Won by Greek Man
Published 2008-02-29
Greek man George Stamatopoulos has won an online poll for a new design of the 2 euro coin to mark the 10th anniversary of the currency next year. His design of a stick man with one arm extended to make up part of the euro symbol was chosen over the other five finalists. It was seen as deliberately primitive to illustrate how the Euro is the latest step in the long history of trade from prehistoric barter to Europe's monetary Union. In January 2009 90 million copies of the design will be distributed between the 15 Euro zone countries.
